DZ Design Presents Abrao Group Workplace Interiors Reflecting Future Growth

DZ Design has unveiled the latest designs for the Abrao Group regional headquarters in Dubai. The new office is located on the 26th floor of the Burj Al Salam tower, one of the busiest commercial buildings on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Spanning 3,800 square feet, the DZ Design team had four months from initial design to completion. Abrao’s new office currently houses 25 employees and is designed to support the future growth of the business.

“It’s what we would describe as a simple yet people-centric desk that supports the day-to-day work of a busy logistics company,” says Dina Murali, design director at DZ Design.

“It’s a small office space, so the client’s main concern was how to fit everything together. So this is where smart design comes into place. You see, there is no unused corner in the office. And each storage area is cleverly concealed to make the space feel more spacious.

Abrao Shipping is part of the Indian group Abraogroup, founded in 1936.

DZ Design has chosen a contemporary modern design, bringing warmth through wooden finishes, and interior greenery. The biggest impact was made in the open space and lounge, which doubles as an informal meeting room.

“To achieve this, we chose a very natural color palette and finishes that go well together. Light oak was used for the wall panels with two natural green walls, combined with gray marble and a carpeted floor with touches of Abrao’s corporate blue color,” says Murali.

Due to the nature of their business, the design team needed to create two separate inputs – one for customer-facing reception and one for paper and document deliveries. At the main reception, the counters and the back wall are all clad in Volakas marble while for the floor they chose Fior Di Bosco marble, adding a touch of luxury.

Abrao Shipping previously rented out its offices, which had a traditional office layout with cubicles and high partitions between employees.

Murali continues: “Open plan offices are notoriously notorious for being distracting and noisy, so we had to make sure the acoustics were correct. In all ceiling panels, we added acoustic baffles and chose carpet flooring, which absorbs more noise than any hard floor.

Like any company in the shipping and logistics industry, Abrao’s office was overflowing with paper, so Dina and her team maximized their storage spaces whenever possible. In an open-plan office, along the long wall, the team designed built-in built-in storage with light oak paneling.

The meeting room has a beautiful bespoke table made from a single slab of marble. Comfortable white leather armchairs blend perfectly with the table.

Due to the structural columns, DZ Design could not place the employee area next to the main window. The client wanted to use as much natural light as possible. Instead of adding frosted glass for privacy, DZ Design installed switchable film. When the conference room is not in use, natural light streams directly through the windows into an open space.

“For the president’s office, we chose more luxurious finishes and furniture. A large black marble slab has been installed on the wall. With its interesting grains and flowing patterns, it acts as an artistic and sophisticated backdrop. Light oak flooring lends warmth and luxury, complemented by a well-designed executive desk, luxury sofa and lounge chairs,” adds Murali.

Although the office has a fairly small footprint, DZ Design managed to create additional “third spaces” in the pantry and a small sitting area.

It is a space where the team comes for a coffee break or to have lunch together. All appliances are recessed and concealed.

“I think we can all agree that Asian food is delicious, but the smell and strong flavors can be overwhelming for those who aren’t used to it. So we wanted to make sure the kitchen is tucked away while the team feels comfortable bringing their favorite foods to work,” concludes Murali.
