THE key to making your home look expensive has little to do with how much you spend decorating it, but everything to do with how you style it.
Interior design pro Shikha Singh has outlined some mistakes you’re likely to make that make your home look cheap and cheesy.
No one is going to walk into a cluttered room and think it looks expensive or fancy.
Finding space to store things is difficult, but it’s better than keeping it out in the open.
Design expert Shikha has published a video discuss the six styling sins that are easy to do and just as easy to fix.
First, all chaos must be eliminated.
Specifically, Shikha says cluttered shoe racks have become your cheap home.
This mess can be cleaned up and put out of sight if you get a shoe cabinet instead.
When it comes to your walls, using small artwork doesn’t bring the room together like large prints do.
Several small frames can seem tacky, so Shikha suggests getting bigger ones.
Following this same logic, rugs that are too small for the size of the room don’t look good.
Shikha encourages viewers to get larger rugs which help tie the space together.
And even if you have a lot of cords lying around your TV, you should put them away.
TV consoles can add to the aesthetics of your room and also help clean up the space a bit.
Shikha says using too many colors will make the piece sticky.
Using neutrals will enhance any space by making it look more chic.
Finally, the basic fixtures should be replaced with custom fixtures.
Try to look for parts that give off a more streamlined and modern look rather than just the ones your home camera is installed with.
“I love EVERY fucking piece of advice. Nothing is so prohibitive,” one grateful viewer commented.
A viewer had a bit more to say: “I totally agree with them, you don’t need the money, do you know how easy it is to spread paint on a large canvas and paint? ‘call it abstract art, like come on.’
