Indian art claims a place in couture rug design – the New Indian Express

Through Express news service

In the fourth edition of its Proud to be Indian (PTBI) series, Obeetee, one of the leading manufacturers of hand-knotted and hand-tufted rugs in India, this time teamed up with leading designer duo Shantanu Mehra and Nikhil Mehra. PTBI is a unique concept that showcases quintessential Indian designs in an artistic rug heritage.

The new collection is divided into three themes: independence, regimental uniform and proud history of India. The collection is a famous revisit of the iconic collection of couturiers over the years, a brand synonymous with power, progressiveness and pride.

Independence is inspired by the three most luxurious forms of freedom – the freedom to choose, the freedom to live and the freedom to see oneself as proud citizens – reaffirming the values of independence through a web of free thought that converge with the characteristic textures of the bold Victory Flag patterns, a red and navy color palette representing the might of the military and the everlasting spirit of freedom and bravery through the badges of the celebrations.

Regimental Regalia draws its inspiration from three strong virtues of the Indian armed forces – discipline, pride and unity – and is a vivid tribute to any Nehruvian. The dramatic and heroic reappropriation of the masculine presence, through the feminine form, is the cornerstone of this collection where feminine / masculine, hard / soft, defend / protect is the new dialogue. Brick textures, maps, battlefield stains signifying the fight, and a victory badge depicting an appropriate finale come to life on the touch surface.

The India-Proud Story is a tribute that perpetuates a rather liberated vintage enthusiasm with meaningful vibes of futuristic cultures and heritage. The India-Proud Story is the continuous representation of the brand of juxtaposition, where the roots are modern but cultural, exotic but familiar, unasserted but proud. This collection pays homage to the age-old carpet-making techniques that Obeetee has perfected over a hundred years of manufacturing with a contemporary signature.

The collection is available in the Obeetee store in Mehrauli Gurgaon Road, as well as in the Shantanu & Nikhil store and at obeetee.com.
