Local design firm to represent Galway at National Enterprise Awards

A well-known design firm is this year’s winner of the Galway County Enterprise Award for 2022.

Husband and wife team John and Joan Nagle of Connemara Carpets will now represent Local Enterprise Office Galway at the 22nd National Enterprise Awards at Mansion House, Dublin on June 2.

Connemara Carpets, founded in 1970, designs, handcrafts and manufactures bespoke rugs, carpets and wall hangings for the domestic and international markets. The company is steeped in heritage and pedigree, handcrafted rugs and carpets using traditional hand tufting skills for a clientele that includes parliaments, palaces and presidential residences around the world. Each rug/carpet is a unique, bespoke design piece.

Over the past few years, Connemara Carpets has rejuvenated its engagement strategy by expanding its in-house design team and an expansion of their capacity, augmented by a complete rebranding, alongside the opening of a exhibition to respond to better visibility and accessibility for customers.

They have also expanded their product offering and can now offer carpets in wools, silks, linens and any mixture of these new materials.

The company has just secured a new showroom in Dublin’s Merrion Square from which it hopes to significantly expand its engagement with design professionals.

Local Enterprise Office Galway business manager Breda Fox said Connemara Carpets first came to them in May 2020.

“After receiving mentoring supports, they then got financial help through the LEO, as well as an online trading voucher to help them grow their online presence. John and Joan’s story is the perfect example of how a local business can grow and grow with the right supports – and we are very proud to have them represent LEO Galway at this year’s National Enterprise Awards,” said she declared.

Connemara Carpets will compete with 30 other finalists from each local authority area for a share of the winners prize of €35,000 as national judging begins in May.

This year, the categories include ‘Best Export Company’, ‘Best Startup’ and ‘Innovation’, in addition to eight regional awards. There are also two new National Enterprise Awards this year with a “One to Watch” award and a “Sustainability/Green” award.

The Galway County Enterprise Awards were held as part of a highly successful Local Business Week program of events. More than 220 physical and virtual events took place across the country, hosted by the companies’ 31 local offices from March 7-11.
